This week in Salt Lake City and across the Southwest, we’re experiencing a range of weather conditions. From clear, sunny days that are perfect for outdoor activities to a sneak peek at upcoming rain in Northern California, our detailed report covers it all. Expect highs peaking in the 90s with a significant UV index alert for the weekend. Nighttime brings cooler temperatures, with marked differences across the region. In the Southwest region, the current radar shows clear conditions prevailing across much of Southern California, including San Diego and Los Angeles, though cloud cover is noted slightly inland. Showers are developing around the Reno area, bringing some needed moisture to the region. Flagstaff is experiencing some cloud cover, but conditions remain mostly dry across the area. Las Vegas and Phoenix are basking in clear, sunny skies today, perfect for outdoor activities.
Temperatures in Salt Lake City will climb to 89 degrees by 4 PM, peaking at 91 degrees as we move into the evening hours. A gentle breeze from the west-northwest is expected, around 9 to 10 miles per hour, adding a touch of briskness to the warm afternoon. Sun lovers will enjoy mostly sunny skies, although a few clouds may roll in by 6 PM, offering a brief shady respite before returning to mostly sunny conditions by 8 PM.
High temperatures across the Southwest are sizzling today. Phoenix reaches a scorching 109 degrees, while Las Vegas isn’t far behind at 106. Bakersfield sees a solid high of 103, and Fresno matches that temperature. Over in San Francisco, the coastal influence keeps it much cooler at 69 degrees.
Tonight, San Francisco will drop to a chilly 52 degrees, while Bakersfield sees a low of 73. In stark contrast, Las Vegas will remain warm with a low of 81. Flagstaff is expected to cool significantly to 55 degrees, and Ely is forecasted to dip to a brisk 49 degrees.
Tomorrow, Phoenix will see sweltering highs reaching 114 degrees, well above average for this time of year. Las Vegas is expected to match that heat at 107 degrees, while El Centro will also hit 107 degrees, making for a hot day across much of the Southwest. Farther west, Bakersfield will be sizzling at 104 degrees, and Fresno is set to warm up to 103 degrees. San Diego will enjoy a relatively mild day with a high of 80 degrees, significantly cooler than the inland areas. San Francisco will be on the cooler side as well, with only 66 degrees expected in the afternoon.
For the Southwest tomorrow, clear skies dominate the desert regions, with plenty of sunshine. In Northern California, be prepared for valley rain and potential slippery roads starting in the morning. Southern California, particularly the San Bernardino Valley, could experience showers with localized heavy rain. Driving conditions in mountain passes may be challenging due to slick spots. Temperatures across the region will remain stable, with no major cold fronts or severe storms expected through the next 48 hours.
In Salt Lake City, the UV index is expected to reach a high of 9 this Saturday, posing a risk for sunburn in just 15 minutes of direct sunlight. By Sunday, the index remains at 9, so ensure you’re well-protected with sunscreen and hats.
