Near Redding, rain is visible and showers extend towards Reno, bringing needed moisture to Northern Nevada. Ely is seeing a mix of rain and ice, which could lead to slick roads. Central to Southern California, including Fresno and Bakersfield, are experiencing clear conditions, as well as Las Vegas and San Francisco. Salt Lake City and Phoenix are enjoying dry and clear skies while the storm remains further north.
Afternoon temperatures in Salt Lake City will be steady at 72 degrees with winds coming from the south-southwest at 11 to 13 miles per hour. Cloud cover will increase, starting partly cloudy and transitioning to mostly cloudy skies by 5 PM. The wind will shift slightly to the south by 7 PM.
High temperatures are warming up significantly across the Southwest today. Phoenix is feeling the heat with a scorching high of 92 degrees, while Las Vegas is experiencing a pleasant 83 degrees under sunny skies. In California, Bakersfield will reach 71 degrees, showcasing a milder pattern compared to the deserts. Meanwhile, San Diego and Los Angeles are cooler at 61 degrees due to coastal influences. Flagstaff is also on the cooler side with a high of just 63 degrees, creating a noticeable contrast with the hotter areas.
Flagstaff will dip to around 32 degrees, indicating a potential freeze. Ely will see a frigid low of 29, while Las Vegas will sit at 51. Bakersfield and Fresno are both forecasted to be cooler than usual, at 49 degrees. San Diego will remain mild with a low of 52 degrees, but the region is bracing for a drop in temperatures across key areas.
Phoenix will experience a scorching high of 86 degrees, while Las Vegas warms up to 73 degrees. In California, Los Angeles and Bakersfield will both reach 60 degrees, and San Diego will enjoy a high of 62 degrees. San Francisco remains cooler at 59 degrees, influenced by prevailing marine layers.
The Southwest region can expect a clear start to the day, but there’s a shift by the afternoon, as a low-pressure system moves in from the west. This system brings increased cloud cover and potential rain showers, particularly impacting Southern California with scattered rain events through Wednesday. Keep an eye on the coastal areas for slightly cooler temperatures as this system encroaches. Snow is likely over higher elevations in the Sierra Nevadas with potential travel impacts.
