Explore the dynamic weather patterns affecting the Southeast, from pounding rain in Jacksonville to pleasant warmth in Atlanta, with pro tips on how to stay prepared.
Meteorologist Amy Freeze covers the varied weather scenarios across the Southeast, revealing why some areas face heavy rains while others enjoy warm sunshine.
Welcome to a detailed exploration of the Southeast’s weather patterns with Amy Freeze. This week’s forecast predicts a mixed bag—from heavy rain in northern Florida to warmer tendencies in Atlanta and beyond. Why such variety? It’s all due to interplaying weather systems impacting the area differently. We’ll delve into each day’s specific forecast, expected temperatures, and crucial safety tips to navigate this dynamic weather safely.
A strong weather system is impacting the Southeast region with widespread rain and thunderstorms. Rain, heavy at times, is concentrated over northern Florida, moving towards Jacksonville and Tampa. Montgomery and Atlanta are experiencing moderate rain with heavier precipitation approaching from the west. Cloudy conditions are prevalent over Savannah, with rain expected to follow soon. Charlotte and the broader Carolinas are set to see increasing cloud cover ahead of impending rain.
This evening in Atlanta, the weather will transition from scattered thunderstorms at 9 PM with temperatures around 68 degrees to partly cloudy skies by midnight. Temperatures will slightly dip to 64 degrees by 1 AM, while winds continue from the south-southeast at 4 miles per hour.
The Southeast is looking at mild overnight temperatures, but some cities will experience significant drops. Tonight, Memphis cools down to 62 degrees, while Nashville will hit a low of 62 as well. Atlanta is expected to be slightly cooler with a low of 62, and Montgomery will settle at 64. Farther south in Jackson, temperatures will reach 66, and New Orleans stays warmer at 72. Tampa and Miami both maintain their warmth with lows around 71 degrees.
Tomorrow, the Southeast will experience above-average temperatures, with highs reaching up to 94 degrees in Houston. Shreveport will see a warm 90 degrees, while New Orleans and Tampa both hit 85 degrees. Atlanta will experience a pleasant 76 degrees, and Jacksonville is forecasted to reach 86 degrees. This warm trend is influenced by high-pressure systems settling over the region, leading to sunny skies and minimal cloud cover.
A low-pressure system sweeps across the Southeast, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms from Birmingham to Charlotte through Tuesday night. Expect heavy rain in areas along the 10 corridor, with localized flooding possible, especially around New Orleans and Jacksonville. Temperatures will hover in the mid-70s in Atlanta, cooling overnight as a cold front moves in. Strong winds and isolated gusts can be anticipated, creating a windy and wet commute for morning travelers. By Wednesday midday, the storm system shifts eastward, leaving behind cooler, drier conditions across the southeast corridor.
The UV index in Atlanta will be high today at a level of 8, with a burn time of just 17 minutes. Sun protection is crucial, so be sure to apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing if outdoors. For Tuesday, the UV index decreases to 6, with a burn time of about 23 minutes. Keep the sunscreen handy and enjoy the sunny weather safely!
