The Southeast region is in the line of severe weather for this afternoon and tonight. Check in with the Storm Prediction Center for the latest on the threats and timing for your area.
Charlotte is seeing increased cloud coverage, with rain inching closer ans severe weather anticipated. Showers are skirting around the Savannah area but haven’t quite reached the coastal city, providing a brief reprieve there. Shreveport and Houston remain calm with no precipitation, while New Orleans is experiencing a pocket of rain moving in from the south. In northern Florida, Jacksonville is catching some rainy weather, with showers moving through the area. Farther north, Montgomery is experiencing another round of showers, with the rain stretching up towards Atlanta. This rain is part of a larger system affecting parts of Mississippi and Alabama, where rainfall is more widespread.
Tomorrow morning in Atlanta, expect scattered thunderstorms throughout the morning hours. At 7 AM, temperatures start at 64 degrees with a south wind at 5 miles per hour. By 9 AM, temperatures will rise to 67 degrees as winds shift to the south-southwest at 8 miles per hour. As we move toward 11 AM, look for temperatures reaching 68 degrees with a southwest wind at 10 miles per hour. Be prepared for wet conditions as the thunderstorms continue through the morning.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Southeast are shaping up to be quite warm. Nashville will see a cool day with a high reaching just 61 degrees. Over in Jackson, Mississippi, temperatures are expected to hit 72 degrees, providing a more mild afternoon.
New Orleans will experience a pleasant high of 80 degrees, while in Baton Rouge, temperatures will soar to 82 degrees. Farther south, Jacksonville and Savannah will push even higher, both hitting 84 degrees. Tampa is anticipated to peak at a warm 86 degrees, setting the stage for a summery feel. Miami is also on track for a steamy day at 82 degrees.
“Strong thunderstorms are set to influence much of the Southeast over the next 24 to 48 hours. The significant weather activity is captured as a cold front advances across regions including eastern Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, extending through Alabama and Georgia by tomorrow morning. Anticipate heavy rainfall and potentially damaging winds from Shreveport through Montgomery to Jacksonville. The Storm Prediction Center includes sections of the Southeast in its Severe Weather Outlook, indicating a heightened alert for severe thunderstorms. Rainfall could challenge drought conditions in some areas, yet the risk of localized flooding remains. Post-storm, expect clearing skies but slightly cooler temperatures, especially from Memphis to Charlotte.”
The UV index in Atlanta is low on both Sunday and Monday at a value of 3. While sun protection is generally important, storms will significantly reduce UV exposure, allowing for extended outdoor activities without immediate burn risk. However, stay alert for thunderstorms and local weather alerts during these days.
