A dynamic weather scene unfolds across the Southeast as a formidable line of thunderstorms stretches from the Gulf of Mexico, impacting the Gulf Coast with intense conditions. Leading the action is New Orleans, engulfed in heavy rain and thunderstorms pushing eastward towards Montgomery. This system is bringing rain showers and severe weather potential to areas farther northeast, including Atlanta, with storms gradually advancing into Georgia and threatening to impact the Carolinas.
Shreveport to Houston experiences drier conditions under partly cloudy skies. This line of storms maintains its formidable presence, as rain extends into Savannah with potential for continued cloud cover ahead of these storms. Though Tampa and Miami enjoy clear conditions with dry skies, the atmosphere remains energized across the region, setting the stage for a potentially stormy evening farther north.
For this evening in Atlanta, anticipate a shift from cloudy skies to clearer conditions. Temperatures begin at 63 degrees at 8 P.M. and gradually decline to 56 degrees by midnight. Winds from the northwest will be light, starting at 10 miles per hour and easing to 9 miles per hour as the night progresses.
Tonight, the Southeast will experience a drop in temperatures as chilly air settles in. Nashville will see a low of 58 degrees, while Jackson reports a bit warmer at 66 degrees. Montgomery will cool down to 66 as well. Expect 63 degrees in Savannah and 69 degrees in Jacksonville. The overnight low for Miami is 75 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Southeast are shaping up to be quite warm. Jacksonville is forecasted to hit 84 degrees, while Tampa will warm up even more to 87 degrees, leading the pack in the region.
In Alabama, Montgomery is expected to reach 81 degrees. Over in Jackson, Mississippi, the high will be 81 degrees as well. New Orleans tops off at 80 degrees.
A cold front will sweep across the Southeast tomorrow, causing an increase in storm activity from Louisiana to the Carolinas. Expect scattered thunderstorms, some potentially severe, with heavy rainfall and gusty winds likely. Jacksonville to Savannah could experience strong downpours late Wednesday afternoon. The front will usher in drier and cooler air, with temperatures dropping by approximately 10 degrees. This drop in temperature aligns with the arrival of clear skies as the system moves farther eastward. Remain vigilant as the SPC has highlighted this region in their Severe Weather Outlook for potential storm impacts over the next 48 hours.
The UV index in Atlanta is going to be high at 8 indicating a burn time of just 17 minutes in direct sunlight. Then the UV index drops to 3 due to cloud cover and potential storms.
