The Southeast radar shows an active weather scene today, April 3, 2025. Storm systems are pushing through the region with a mix of rain and severe thunderstorm activity. Starting in the western part, Houston and Shreveport are dealing with the brunt of the storms, receiving intense rain and possible thunderstorms. This line of weather is stretched all the way to Memphis, highlighting a busy weather pattern for much of the region. As we move eastward, Jackson is experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with this precipitation expected to move toward Montgomery and Atlanta as the day progresses. A broad area of cloud cover accompanies these storms, signaling more rain on the way for these areas. Interestingly, the coastal regions like Savannah and Jacksonville are enjoying a pause from the rain with clearer skies, although cloud cover might increase as the day goes on. Miami remains dry with mild conditions for now. The radar also indicates clear weather for northern parts like Charlotte, which should expect clouds and possibly rain moving in from the west as the day unfolds.
In Atlanta this evening, partly cloudy skies will accompany temperatures decreasing from 79 degrees at 9 PM to 73 degrees by 1 AM. Winds from the south-southeast at 7 mph at 9 PM will shift to 6 mph, maintaining a gentle breeze through the night.
Memphis will drop to a brisk 37 degrees, while Nashville expects to see a low of 36. In Jackson, temperatures will dip to 41 degrees, and Montgomery isn’t far behind at 40. Farther south, it remains mild in Tampa with a low of 56. Miami rounds out the region with a comfortable low of 64 degrees.
High temperatures across the Southeast tomorrow are shaping up to be well above average for this time of year. Montgomery is also slated for a hot day with temperatures reaching 90 degrees. Over in Jacksonville, highs are forecasted to hit 88 degrees, similar to Atlanta, while Tampa may experience a sizzling high of 93 degrees. Farther west in Jackson, Mississippi, the temperature will be a little cooler but still warm at 86 degrees. New Orleans is on track to see a high of 84 degrees. Meanwhile, Memphis will remain relatively moderate with a high of 82. Overall, the warm, humid air contributing to these elevated temperatures could also lead to some afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the region.
As a cold front nears the Southeast, tomorrow kicks off with showers and embedded thunderstorms moving from Shreveport into the Mississippi Valley. Be alert for possible severe weather across Memphis and Jackson, where strong winds and heavy rain are most likely. Expect localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Farther east, this weather system will bring scattered thunderstorms to Atlanta and Montgomery by Thursday afternoon. Conditions in Savannah and Jacksonville will remain mostly mild until late evening, when rain chances increase. Houston and New Orleans can anticipate a break from active weather with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures across the region will notably drop post-frontal passage, with cooler, breezy conditions taking hold by Friday.
The UV index in Atlanta will be moderate at 6 on Thursday, with a burn time of approximately 23 minutes in direct sunlight. For Friday, the UV index climbs to a high of 8, reducing the burn time to just 17 minutes.
For the 7-day forecast in Atlanta: Thursday: Partly cloudy skies with a high reaching 87 degrees and a low of 66 degrees. Friday: Look for warmer temperatures under partly cloudy conditions, with highs of 89 degrees and lows of 69. Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a comfortable high of 88 degrees and a nighttime low of 67.
