Expect a mix from sunny clear skies to potential severe storms as a cold front pushes through, dramatically changing our temperatures. Across the Southern Plains, the regional radar reveals some action in parts of the region. A cluster of storms is rolling southeast of Dallas, heading toward northern Louisiana, bringing potential thunderstorms. Little Rock is experiencing light rain showers moving through, while more steady rain can be seen over Jackson, Mississippi. Farther north, Kansas City enjoys clear skies, offering a peaceful break. Out west, Albuquerque remains dry with clear skies prevailing over much of New Mexico. El Paso and Midland are also basking in clear conditions, while San Antonio and Corpus Christi enjoy a sunny start too.
For this evening in Austin, expect temperatures to start at 79 degrees around 8 PM, cooling slightly to 74 degrees by 10 PM, and settling at 72 degrees by midnight. The wind will be gentle out of the south-southeast initially, shifting to a calm southern breeze later at night.
Tonight, the Southern Plains will experience a significant drop in temperatures as a cold front moves through the region. Oklahoma City will see a low of 42 degrees, while Dallas is expected to cool down to 52. In Little Rock, temperature readings will dip to 45 degrees. Heading south, San Antonio will remain warmer at 62 degrees, but that’s still a notable drop from previous nights. El Paso will feel a bit chillier with a low of 56 degrees.
High temperatures for the Southern Plains tomorrow will show a significant warm-up, bringing above-average readings for many locations. In El Paso, expect a high of 81 degrees, while Midland is forecasted to hit 79. San Antonio will see a warm 86 degrees, leading the pack with the highest temperatures in the region. Corpus Christi isn’t far behind with a high of 83 degrees. Dallas will enjoy a comfortable 71 degrees, and Oklahoma City will reach around 63 degrees
“Prepare for a notable weather shift across the Southern Plains as we watch a line of storms moving from Oklahoma City southeastward toward Dallas and on to New Orleans through Monday. These storms will bring the potential for severe weather, including heavy rains and strong winds, especially in central and southeast Oklahoma toward Little Rock. Along the cold front, fast-moving storms are anticipated, possibly impacting your morning and evening commutes. Keep an eye out for any severe weather warnings as this front progresses. Temperatures will drop behind the front, bringing cooler conditions across the region by Tuesday.”
“The UV index in Austin will reach a high of 7 on Sunday. Be mindful of sun exposure, as burn time is around 20 minutes. On Monday, expect a very high UV index of 9, with a burn time of just 15 minutes.”
For the 7-day outlook in Austin: Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a high of 84 degrees and a low of 64 degrees. Monday: Expect mostly clear skies with the temperature reaching a high of 76 degrees and a low of 58. Tuesday: Partly cloudy conditions will prevail, with a high of 82 degrees and a low of 71. Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a warmer high of 89 degrees and a low of 70. Thursday: Thunderstorms developing late in the day, bringing temperatures down to 81 degrees during the day and 69 overnight. Friday: Continue with thunderstorm activities, expect a high of 82 degrees and a low of 63. Saturday: Scattered thunderstorms with cooler temperatures; the high will be 76 degrees and a low of 54.
