On the regional radar for the Southern Plains, we’re seeing a very dynamic weather setup. There’s a significant band of rain stretching from eastern Texas through Louisiana, intensifying as it moves towards New Orleans with heavy downpours. The city of New Orleans is experiencing strong storms, which extend into the Gulf Coast. Meanwhile, lighter showers are noted past the Texarkana area and drifting towards Little Rock, Arkansas.
Back west, scattered showers have developed across New Mexico, moving into the El Paso region. Albuquerque is currently dry, but clouds are increasing as the moisture approaches. Farther north, Oklahoma City remains under overcast skies but rain isn’t far behind.
The rest of the Southern Plains, including areas like Dallas and San Antonio, remains mostly dry for now, providing a short-lived reprieve as this system shifts eastward. Keep an eye to the sky if you’re in these areas, as changes are imminent.
Afternoon temperatures in Austin reach up to 84 degrees around 5 PM, under mostly sunny skies. A soft southern breeze at 8 to 9 miles per hour adds a gentle touch to the warmth.
Let’s take a look at today’s high temperatures across the Southern Plains. In El Paso, we’re reaching a pleasant 79 degrees, while Midland will be a bit warmer at 86 degrees. San Antonio matches that high of 86, offering warm conditions perfect for outdoor activities. Over in Dallas, expect a high of 83, just a little more mild than the surrounding areas. In Oklahoma City, temperatures will be comfortable at 84 degrees, while Little Rock sits at 76 degrees.
Now for the low temperatures in the Southern Plains tonight, we’ll see some chilly air settling in. Oklahoma City is expected to drop to 41 degrees, while Dallas will see a low of 53. In contrast, Midland will have a cooler night at 50 degrees, and El Paso isn’t far behind at 54. Heading east, Little Rock will see a low of 49 degrees, and San Antonio will experience a milder 69.
High temperatures for the Southern Plains tomorrow show a significant warming trend as spring begins to settle in. El Paso will see a lovely high of 79 degrees. In Midland, temperatures are expected to soar to 85 degrees, marking a lively day. San Antonio is also forecasting a high of 85, with comfortable conditions persisting. In Corpus Christi, expect a balmy 82 degrees. Dallas will experience a more moderate high of 67 degrees, while Oklahoma City lags behind at 61 degrees.
“Looking ahead on the futurecast for the Southern Plains, prepare for a dynamic weather day on Sunday. The SPC has the mid south in their enhanced storm outlook for late Sunday. Be alert as several areas including eastern Texas into Oklanhoma may experience stronger storms with the unstable air mass and an advancing cold front. Be ready for severe weather alerts.”
