Catch Meteorologist Amy Freeze’s update on this dynamic weather week in the Southern Plains. Expect everything from serene sunny days and soothing rains to stormy evenings that demand your attention. With temperatures swinging from the high 90s down into soothing night-time lows, it’s a week to stay informed and prepared. A weather system is bringing rain showers to northeastern areas of the Southern Plains, particularly affecting the region around Little Rock. The showers extend further southeast towards Jackson, where heavier bursts of rain can be expected. The rest of the Southern Plains, including cities like Dallas and Oklahoma City, are clear and dry. In El Paso and surrounding areas, skies remain clear, providing a sunny and pleasant day. The Gulf Coast from New Orleans to Corpus Christi is also enjoying a break from precipitation, with little to no cloud cover.
Austin’s afternoon weather will be warm with temperatures rising to 90 degrees by 6 PM. Expect mostly sunny skies and a calm atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Temperatures slightly decrease to 89 degrees by 8 PM, transitioning to partly cloudy conditions. Enjoy the sunny conditions for outdoor activities!
This afternoon, temperatures are heating up across the Southern Plains. El Paso is expected to reach a high of 95 degrees, while Midland is even warmer at 96. Dallas will see a high of 84 degrees, which is a bit cooler compared to the neighboring cities. Down south, San Antonio also hits 96, making it one of the hottest spots today. Corpus Christi is a touch cooler at 92 degrees, while New Orleans warms up to 78. Little Rock is on the cooler side, with temperatures only reaching 71, highlighting the significant contrasts in the region.
Tonight in the Southern Plains, temperatures will dip significantly. Oklahoma City is expected to see a low of 65 degrees, while Little Rock will be a bit cooler at 68 degrees. In Texas, Dallas will feel a drop to 72 degrees, and San Antonio will also sit at 72. Farther west, Midland is anticipating a low of 75 degrees.
High temperatures in the Southern Plains for tomorrow will soar above average due to a strong warm front. San Antonio is expected to reach a sizzling 107 degrees, while Midland will also warm significantly to 101 degrees. Dallas can expect a high of 95 degrees, making it a notably hot day for the region. Corpus Christi will see highs around 94 degrees, and El Paso is forecasted to hit 94 as well.
A cold front is advancing into the Southern Plains, bringing widespread rain from Dallas to Corpus Christi tomorrow, beneficial for drought relief. Oklahoma City needs to prepare for possible severe storms due to an unstable air mass. Expect thunderstorm activity extending from Texas into parts of Arkansas and Louisiana. Keep an eye on potential severe weather warnings, especially heading into the evening. Temperatures will dip slightly following the frontal passage, offering cooler conditions by Wednesday.
