Stormy weather is making its presence known across parts of the Southern Plains as we check out the regional radar! A potent line of severe thunderstorms is making its way across southeastern Kansas, with areas like Kansas City experiencing the brunt of this storm activity. Meanwhile, farther south, Oklahoma City is seeing moderate to heavy rain showers with thunderstorms dotting the area.
As we move eastward, Little Rock isn’t far behind, facing a steady stream of showers falling from those ominous clouds. Heading farther south into the states of Texas and Louisiana, although dry at the moment, conditions are expected to change as more rain moves in, possibly affecting areas like Dallas and Jackson later in the day.
Conversely, it’s a relatively calm morning for cities such as Albuquerque and El Paso under mostly clear skies, allowing for a welcome break from the recent tumultuous weather patterns. Meanwhile, aspects of Southern Texas, including San Antonio, Midland, and Corpus Christi, are basking in a peaceful start, with expectations of clearer conditions sticking around for much of the day.
In Austin, this evening’s forecast transitions from partly cloudy skies at 9 PM with a temperature of 79 degrees. Expect winds from the northeast at 6 miles per hour. By 11 PM, conditions become mostly cloudy, with temperatures cooling to 73 degrees and winds shifting east-southeast at 8 miles per hour. Skies turn fully cloudy by 1 AM, with temperatures at 72 degrees and light easterly winds at 7 miles per hour.
In the Southern Plains, we’re looking at a significant drop in temperatures. In Oklahoma City, expect a low of 45 degrees, while Tulsa will dip down to 40. Dallas is forecasted to cool to 54 degrees. In San Antonio, temperatures will be more mild at 63 degrees. Meanwhile, El Paso is looking at a low of 45 degrees, and Midland should see 48.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Southern Plains will see a mix of seasonal warmth and some above-average readings. In El Paso, a pleasant high of 74 degrees is anticipated, while Midland will experience a warmer day at 85 degrees. San Antonio is set to reach a balmy 81 degrees, and Corpus Christi is expected to hit 79 degrees. In contrast, Dallas will be noticeably cooler with a high of 67 degrees. Kansas City will struggle to warm up, reaching only 61 degrees.
Looking ahead on the futurecast for the Southern Plains, anticipate a mix of weather conditions. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to track from Oklahoma City to Little Rock, with the potential for severe storms, especially in northeastern Oklahoma. A cold front will sweep through the region, enhancing the storm risk and bringing gusty winds. Farther south, from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, expect more scattered rain showers.
The UV index in Austin will be a high of 7 on both Thursday and Friday, with a burn time of about 20 minutes. It’s important to take precautions if you’re out and about.
