Today in Austin, enjoy sunny skies as temperatures soar, but don’t overlook the shifting conditions throughout the Southern Plains, from light rains in Little Rock to clear skies in most of Texas. Get ready for drastic temperature changes and find out how you can protect yourself during the extreme UV levels expected this weekend. Remember, weather can be unpredictable, so stay informed and prepared! Across the Southern Plains, the radar shows a mix of weather patterns today. Little Rock is experiencing areas of light to moderate rain with some scattered storms pushing eastward. Southeast of Oklahoma City, the weather remains relatively clear, while Jackson is seeing some showers creeping in from the northwest. Much of Texas, including Dallas and Corpus Christi, enjoys mostly clear skies. However, residents in El Paso should expect dry conditions as clouds build to the east.
Expect a warm afternoon in Austin with temperatures climbing to 97 degrees by 6 PM. Winds will be coming from the south, starting at 8 miles per hour at 4 PM and slightly decreasing to 6 miles per hour by 6 PM. The sky will start off mostly cloudy, clearing to partly cloudy as the evening progresses. Temperatures will decrease to 92 degrees by 8 PM with a southeast wind at 7 miles per hour.
Today’s high temperatures in the Southern Plains are on the rise. In San Antonio, expect a sizzling high of 102 degrees, making it one of the warmest spots today. Midland is also feeling the heat with a high of 94 degrees. Dallas and Oklahoma City are enjoying warmer, yet more moderate temps, both reaching around 88 degrees. Over in El Paso, temperatures will hit 90 degrees, while Jackson and New Orleans are a bit cooler, both at 89 degrees.
Tonight in the Southern Plains, temperatures are dipping significantly. Oklahoma City will see a chilly low of 54 degrees. Dallas is expected to cool down to about 62 degrees, while Little Rock will reach 67. In contrast, San Antonio remains relatively warm at 76 degrees, and Houston will hover around 78.
High temperatures across the Southern Plains tomorrow will soar well above average, thanks to a strong ridge of high pressure. In El Paso, expect a warm high of 91 degrees. Midland will be sizzling at 95 degrees, while San Antonio heats up to a hot 98 degrees. Dallas isn’t far behind with a high of 87 degrees, and Corpus Christi will reach a pleasant 89 degrees. Little Rock anticipates a high of 90 degrees, maintaining that summer-like vibe in the region.
Expect an active weather day across the Southern Plains tomorrow. Widespread rain will develop from Dallas to Corpus Christi, delivering beneficial moisture. Oklahoma City should prepare for stronger storms, potentially bringing damaging winds and heavy rainfall. A cold front pushing through the area increases the risk of severe weather, particularly in southeastern sections. By the end of the day, however, anticipate clearing skies with cooler temperatures setting in across the region.
The UV index in Austin will be extreme on Friday and Saturday, reaching a level of 10. This means you can get a sunburn in just about 12 minutes if exposed to direct sunlight. Ensure you’re wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen, a hat, and UV-protective sunglasses.
