In the Southern Plains region today, we’re observing a mix of weather conditions. Starting with storms, a line of severe thunderstorms is moving through Jackson reaching toward the Gulf Coast at New Orleans. Keep an eye out for gusty winds and heavy rainfall as this system tracks eastward.
Cloud cover is affecting much of the southeastern regions, with significant cloud bands sweeping across Little Rock and moving eastward. The skies are overcast in these areas, bringing the potential for more rain as the day progresses.
The central parts of the region, including Oklahoma City and Dallas, are currently under clear conditions, providing a break from any significant weather activity. This break extends westward to Midland and farther into El Paso, where sunny skies dominate.
The northern sector, encompassing Kansas City, is experiencing clear skies at the moment but could see changes as weather systems develop in the coming days. It’s a diverse weather day across the Southern Plains, with areas of calmness interspersed with potentially stormy conditions farther east.
Expect a mostly clear evening in Austin with temperatures starting at 55 degrees around 9 PM. As the night progresses, temperatures will drop to 50 degrees by 11 PM and further down to 46 degrees by 1 AM. Winds are coming from the north-northwest at 7 miles per hour early in the evening, then transitioning to a northward direction with decreasing speeds of 4 then 3 miles per hour as the night continues into a clear sky.
Oklahoma City will see a low of 41 degrees, while Dallas cools down to 43. Little Rock is expected to hit 39. Moving down to San Antonio, a mild low of 46 degrees is forecasted.
El Paso will register a low of 45, and Midland also matches that at 45 degrees. For those in the southernmost areas, Corpus Christi will have a low of 54, while New Orleans sits at 50 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Southern Plains are looking quite seasonal. El Paso will warm to a comfortable 70 degrees. Midland is set to heat up to 84 degrees, which is above average for this time of year. In San Antonio, temperatures will reach a pleasant 77 degrees. Corpus Christi is expected to see a high of 75 degrees. Dallas will experience slightly cooler conditions with a high of 68 degrees, while Kansas City anticipates a more chilly 61 degrees.
Anticipate a bustling weather day in the Southern Plains as shifting systems bring varied conditions. Rain showers are expected from Dallas reaching down to Corpus Christi, offering valuable precipitation. Oklahoma City may encounter more intense storms. The instability of the air mass, coupled with an advancing cold front, necessitates vigilance for potential severe weather alerts across the southeast through Wednesday night.
