Starting from the west, clear skies dominate the areas around Albuquerque and El Paso, extending into Midland and San Antonio, allowing for some pleasant outdoor weather. However, a more dynamic weather pattern emerges as we move eastward. Over Oklahoma City, clouds are present, but conditions remain fairly dry for now. Farther southeast, Little Rock is currently dealing with rain showers, providing a wet start to the day. Rain becomes more intense as we move into Mississippi, with Jackson experiencing heavy showers and embedded thunderstorms, so keep those umbrellas handy. This active weather stretches down towards New Orleans, where rain is falling steadily with possible localized flooding. The northern areas around Kansas City and eastward into the Tennessee River Valley observe a wintry mix, with snow occurring farther north of the Southern Plains region.
This afternoon in Austin, expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures steady around 57 degrees. Winds will be from the north-northwest at 12 miles per hour, decreasing slightly to 9 miles per hour as the evening approaches. Clouds increase slightly by 7 PM, bringing partly cloudy conditions while the temperature holds steady at 57 degrees.
In Texas, San Antonio is enjoying a warm afternoon with a high of 64 degrees, while Corpus Christi is a bit warmer at 68. Meanwhile, Midland hits 57 degrees, and El Paso sees a slightly cooler day with a high of 59. Moving into Oklahoma, Oklahoma City is experiencing a chillier high of 52 degrees. Oklahoma City will see a low of 39 degrees, while Dallas is expected to drop to 43 degrees. Moving into Texas, San Antonio will cool down to 46 degrees. Midland and El Paso will both have lows of 45 degrees. In the eastern part of the region, Little Rock is forecasted to reach a chilly 39 degrees, and Jackson will have a low of 41. New Orleans will be somewhat warmer at 50 degrees, but still notably cooler compared to recent nights.
