Greetings from your friendly neighborhood meteorologist, Amy Freeze! Today, we’re covering the diverse weather patterns sweeping across the Southwest. From the snowy hills of northern California to the rain-soaked streets of San Francisco, and the mild, sunny conditions in Los Angeles. Keep an eye on the evolving weather and prepare for everything from chilly nights in Nevada to warm days ahead in Phoenix. Be sure to follow for daily updates and stay ahead of the weather game!
In the Southwest region, we’re seeing quite a mix of weather patterns. Redding is currently experiencing snowfall, which is quite a beautiful sight in the northern part of the state. Moving southwest, San Francisco is currently under a dense layer of rain clouds bringing showers to the city. Fresno is also seeing consistent rainfall, providing some relief to the area’s dryness.
As we head further south, Bakersfield is under cloudy skies with some light sprinkles, while Los Angeles is enjoying a break with mostly clear skies and mild conditions. Coastal San Diego is also seeing some light rain showers, bringing a refreshing coolness to the air.
Over in Reno, rain is falling steadily—something the area could use. Ely is facing snow showers, typical for this time of year in Nevada. Cedar City is currently dry, though partly cloudy skies are moving in. Flagstaff’s forecast indicates a light dusting of snow, bringing a chilly atmosphere to the city. Meanwhile, Phoenix and Las Vegas are both enjoying dry conditions with clear skies offering a pleasant evening.
Salt Lake City will start the morning with mostly cloudy skies and a mild temperature of 47 degrees at 8 a.m. Winds will be from the west-northwest at 6 miles per hour, adding a gentle breeze. By 10 a.m., temperatures will slightly drop to 46 degrees, with the wind shifting to the northwest at 5 miles per hour. As noon approaches, expect temperatures to rise to 49 degrees with consistent wind conditions, maintaining partly cloudy skies throughout the morning.
For tomorrow’s weather update in the Southwest, we’re expecting some warm temperatures across the region. In Las Vegas, prepare for a high of 89 degrees, significantly above average for this time of year. Meanwhile, Phoenix will be warm as well, reaching a notable 93 degrees, continuing a trend of higher than normal temperatures.
In California, Fresno and Bakersfield are both set for highs of 83 degrees, while Los Angeles will stay more mild at 70 degrees. San Diego will see slightly cooler readings, with a high of 68 degrees.
Farther north, Ely will hit 62 degrees, and Cedar Cit will get up to 67 degrees. Overall, a warm pattern persists, influenced by a high pressure system keeping the skies clear and temperatures elevated across the Southwest.
Tomorrow in the Southwest, expect a primarily clear forecast with sunny skies dominating the desert areas. The coast will see changes. Early in the day, watch for increased cloudiness along the California coast, with Northern California receiving intermittent valley rain. This trend could create hazardous driving conditions in hilly regions, so plan accordingly. Southern California, especially around San Bernardino, might experience scattered showers leading to wet roads and potentially difficult travel conditions on mountain highways. Temperatures across the region will remain steady, making conditions relatively mild. Keep an eye on local alerts for any updates on potential heavier rain or hazardous conditions.
The UV index in Salt Lake City will be quite high at 6 on both Saturday and Sunday, leading to a burn time of approximately 23 minutes.
For the 7-day forecast in Salt Lake City:
Sunday: Cloudy skies with a high of 59 degrees and a low of 37 degrees.
Monday: Clear conditions throughout the day, temperatures rising to a high of 66 degrees and dipping to 43 degrees overnight.
