On the Regional Radar, shower activity is primarily concentrated around Redding, with clouds extending towards Reno. Rain is encompassing the area from San Francisco down through Fresno, bringing much-needed moisture. Central Nevada, including Ely, is clear right now, while farther to the northeast, near Salt Lake City, snow showers are appearing. Cedar City is experiencing rain with cloud cover stretching toward Las Vegas, although dry conditions dominate there. Southern California, from Los Angeles to San Diego, is mostly clear, with no precipitation in sight.
Phoenix will experience a warm afternoon with sunny skies and temperatures climbing from 99 degrees at 4 PM to 101 degrees by 8 PM. Expect light winds coming from the east at 6 MPH and shifting to the east-northeast at 5 MPH by evening.
Today, the Southwest region is heating up! Phoenix is bracing for a sweltering high of 103 degrees, while Las Vegas sizzles at 96. In California, Bakersfield reaches a warm 99 degrees, closely followed by Los Angeles at 90. Moving up the coast, San Francisco feels much cooler at 71 degrees. Flagstaff will see a more moderate high of 72, making it a refreshing escape from the desert heat. Keep hydrated and stay cool out there!
In the Southwest tonight, Flagstaff will see a low of 44 degrees, while Las Vegas is forecasted to cool down to 57. San Francisco will have a mild night at 52 degrees, and Los Angeles will experience a low of 59. Bakersfield is slightly warmer at 67 degrees, while Phoenix remains toasty with a low of 79.
Tomorrow, Las Vegas is expected to heat up to 99 degrees, while Phoenix could soar to a blistering 103 degrees. In California, Bakersfield will reach 102, with Los Angeles hitting a pleasant 93 degrees. San Diego stays relatively cooler at 87 degrees, while San Francisco will see a high of 70 degrees. These temperatures are influenced by increased sunshine and high pressure settling over the area, leading to warm conditions throughout the region.
Anticipate an active weather period in the Southwest as a cold front brings thunderstorms from California moving eastward. Coastal areas from San Francisco to Los Angeles face heavy rains and possible localized flooding through late tomorrow night. Driving conditions may become hazardous with slick roads in the Sierra Nevada mountain passes. Winds will pick up in the early evening, potentially reaching severe thresholds in certain areas. Temperatures will drop noticeably behind the front, ushering in a cooler and clearer weekend for much of the Southwest.
The UV index in Phoenix will be at a very high level of 10 today and Saturday, indicating the need for protective measures if you’re spending time outdoors. With a burn time of just 12 minutes in direct sunlight, make sure to apply sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and seek shade during peak sun hours.
