Las Vegas and Phoenix are hitting record highs, while coastal areas like San Diego benefit from cooler breezes. A strong band of rain is moving through the Southwest, particularly felt in Northern California, stretching from Redding down to Fresno and further south to Bakersfield. Las Vegas and Ely are currently dry, with cloud cover thickening ahead of the system. Salt Lake City has clear skies at the moment, but should monitor as conditions change. Flagstaff is expecting potential showers with winds starting to pick up, which could lead to cooler temperatures.
For this evening in Salt Lake City, temperatures will decrease from 92 degrees at 9 PM to 79 degrees by 1 AM. The winds will shift from northwest at 7 mph in the early evening to east-southeast at 8 mph towards midnight. Expect mostly cloudy skies through 11 PM, clearing up to mostly clear afterwards.
Tonight, Las Vegas will drop to a cool 60 degrees, while Phoenix remains much warmer at 83. Flagstaff will see a chilly low of 49, highlighting the cooler air settling in the higher elevations. Bakersfield will cool to 66 degrees, and San Diego is expected to reach a low of 60. Temperatures in the Bay Area will be mild with San Francisco around 51 degrees.
Tomorrow in the Southwest, Las Vegas is set to sizzle at a scorching 110 degrees, well above average for this time of year. Phoenix will be dealing with an extreme high of 114 degrees, fueled by high-pressure systems creating notable heat waves across the region. Bakersfield will see a high of 99 degrees, while Fresno will reach close to that with 97 degrees. In contrast, a cooler San Francisco can expect a pleasant 63 degrees, a significant dip due to coastal influences. Salt Lake City will also be warm at 97 degrees.
A high-pressure system will dominate the Southwest tomorrow, bringing clear skies and warm temperatures across much of the region. Expect highs to reach the mid-90s in areas like Phoenix and Las Vegas. While the desert areas remain dry, coastal regions in Southern California might experience patchy morning fog, clearing by midday. No severe weather or precipitation is anticipated over the next 24 to 48 hours.
The UV index in Salt Lake City will be very high this Saturday and Sunday, both reaching a level of 9. This indicates a burn time of just 15 minutes in direct sunlight, so it’s essential to apply high-SPF sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.

Friday: Clear conditions continue with a high of 96 degrees and an overnight low of 64 degrees.
