On the regional radar, a robust line of storms is traversing from Redding in Northern California, bringing rain showers that extend toward Reno. As these showers move, they provide central California valleys with much-needed precipitation. Snowfall is anticipated in areas farther north, along the Sierra Nevada mountains. Meanwhile, Ely, Nevada, is currently experiencing light snowfall, making for a chilly evening. Cedar City is observing cloudy conditions, signaling possible snow later. In contrast, the skies over Las Vegas and the Mojave Desert remain clear and dry, offering respite from wet conditions elsewhere. Looking southeast, Phoenix greets milder weather, with no precipitation on the horizon today. Flagstaff, however, has the potential for snow flurries because of the cooler temperatures. The Los Angeles area is seeing a calm atmosphere with only a slight haze and no rain expected for the time being. Further down south, San Diego enjoys dry and pleasant conditions as well.
This afternoon in Salt Lake City temperatures hover around 72 degrees with a northwest wind at 12 miles per hour, shifting slightly to the north-northwest by evening. Skies will be partly cloudy, creating a pleasant afternoon atmosphere. As we move toward the evening, expect a gradual drop to 70 degrees while clouds remain, maintaining a mostly cloudy sky. A gentle breeze continues, contributing to the overall mild weather conditions.
Let’s take a look at today’s regional high temperatures across the Southwest. In California, Los Angeles is enjoying a pleasant day with a high of 73 degrees, while Bakersfield heats up to 84. Over in Fresno, expect a warm high of 81. As we move to Nevada, Las Vegas is on the hotter side with a scorching high of 91 degrees, and Ely will see a more mild 72. In Arizona, Phoenix is feeling the heat, reaching a sizzling 100 degrees, while Flagstaff stays cooler at 73.
Cedar City, Utah, is expected to dip to 34. Las Vegas will have a low of 61, that’s a bit cooler than we’ve seen. In Arizona, Flagstaff will chill to 35 degrees, and farther south, Phoenix will remain much warmer at 68 degrees. San Francisco will drop to 49, while Bakersfield sees a low of 56. Expect more mild conditions along the coast in places like San Diego at 51 and Los Angeles at 49.
Tomorrow in the Southwest, we can expect a significant warm-up, with many areas reporting above-average high temperatures. In Arizona, Phoenix is set to soar to a high of 93 degrees, while Flagstaff will be much cooler, reaching 70. Over in Nevada, Las Vegas anticipates a hot afternoon with a high of 89 degrees, particularly above seasonal norms. California cities are also feeling the heat. Bakersfield and Fresno will both hit 83 degrees, adding to the warm trend. Los Angeles will enjoy a mild day with highs around 70 degrees, and San Diego will warm to 68. For those in Utah, Cedar City is expected to reach 67 degrees, while Ely will have a cooler day at 62 degrees.
On the Southwest futurecast, anticipate a clear and sunny pattern across the desert southwest, providing pleasant outdoor conditions. The coast, however, will not remain clear. Saturday into Sunday brings several rounds of valley rain to Northern California, leading to potential travel delays. Southern California, including the San Bernardino Valley, can expect more showers with occasional heavy rain, increasing the risk of slick conditions over mountain passes.
Salt Lake City will experience a moderate UV index of 6 on both Saturday and Sunday, with a burn time of about 23 minutes in direct sunlight. Be sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing if spending extended periods outdoors to avoid sunburn!
