Meanwhile, in Southern California, prepare for a mix of clear skies and sudden showers. A band of rain showers is making its way inland from the Pacific, touching the coast of Southern California, reaching areas around Los Angeles and San Diego. As the moisture travels inland, Bakersfield and Fresno are also experiencing some light rain. Reno and the surrounding foothills are seeing precipitation, likely including both rain and snow. Across the mountainous regions like those near Ely, expect snow showers as cooler air dominates at higher elevations. Salt Lake City and Flagstaff remain dry for now, with cloud cover moving in.
Phoenix this afternoon sees a warm stretch with temperatures rising to 93 degrees by 6 PM. The skies remain mostly clear, providing plenty of sunshine, perfect for outdoor plans. Winds are mild, coming from the southwest at 5 to 7 miles per hour, offering just a light breeze. By 8 PM, a few clouds might appear, but the temperature holds steady at 93 degrees.
In the Southwest today, temperatures are expected to soar. Phoenix will experience a hot high of 95 degrees, while Las Vegas isn’t far behind at 87 degrees. Farther north in Flagstaff, it’s much cooler with a high of only 64 degrees, highlighting a stark temperature contrast across the region. Bakersfield will see a pleasant 73 degrees, while Fresno warms up to 71. Coastal areas like San Diego will stay cooler as well, with temperatures reaching just 63 degrees. In the Southwest, we’re tracking some cold overnight lows. Flagstaff is bracing for a chilly 31 degrees, and Ely isn’t far behind at 35. High temperatures in the Southwest region are expected to remain above average tomorrow. Las Vegas will see a high of 70 degrees, while Los Angeles warms up to 63. A warm front is set to push through the Southwest bringing an increase in temperatures and clear skies, particularly over the desert regions by tomorrow. However, coastal areas, especially in southern California, can anticipate light to moderate showers as moisture from the Pacific skirts the shoreline. Be alert for gusty winds alongside these coastal showers, which could lead to slick road conditions. Thunderstorms could develop in higher elevations with spotty showers persisting into early evening hours. By late Wednesday, expect dry conditions to gradually settle in as the front moves eastward.
Phoenix will see a UV index of 9 on both Saturday and Sunday. This high UV level means a quick burn time of about 15 minutes, so remember to stay sun-smart!
