As we step into a crisp April morning, the Southwest experiences a lively mix of elements. Meteorologist Amy Freeze takes us through detailed city-by-city forecasts, highlighting shifts from snow in Eastern Nevada to clear skies in Las Vegas and Flagstaff. Read on for essential insights and tips to navigate these changes smoothly.
The Southwest region is currently experiencing a mix of weather conditions. A significant band of rain is moving inland from the Pacific Ocean, impacting the California coastline. This storm system is providing much-needed rainfall to areas like San Francisco and Fresno while bringing snow to higher elevations near Redding and areas around Reno. The Central California Valleys, including Bakersfield, can expect moderate rainfall, contributing to drought relief efforts.
Meanwhile, Eastern Nevada is seeing snowfall, creating wintry conditions. Cedar City is also experiencing some precipitation with a mix of rain and snow showers. The weather remains dry farther south, with Las Vegas and Flagstaff experiencing clearer skies and slightly cooler temperatures, though Flagstaff may see some light snow showers later on. Phoenix continues to enjoy mild conditions.
Tomorrow morning in Salt Lake City starts off chilly at 30 degrees at 7 AM. By 9 AM, expect a slight uptick to 31 degrees with partly cloudy skies and an east-southeast wind at 6 miles per hour. Heading into 11 AM, temperatures rise to 37 degrees under partly cloudy skies with a south-southeast breeze at 4 miles per hour.
Tomorrow in Southern California, Los Angeles will see a high of 64 degrees, while San Diego matches that with a comfortable 60 degrees. A bit farther inland, Bakersfield and Fresno will both warm up to 61 degrees, making for a pleasant day.
Heading into the desert, Las Vegas anticipates a high of 57 degrees, which is slightly below average for this time of year. In Arizona, Phoenix is projected to reach a more seasonal 64 degrees.
On the other hand, the northern parts of the region will see cooler conditions, with San Francisco struggling to hit 59 degrees. Reno, will see temperatures even lower, reaching just 47 degrees.
A frontal boundary in the Southwest is bringing changing weather conditions. For tomorrow, expect rain to push from Northern California to the Central Valley, with heavy rainfall likely over the Sierra Nevada, potentially leading to tricky travel conditions through mountain passes. As this system progresses, look out for scattered showers extending into Southern California. Temperatures will stay mild with the cloud cover, although some clearing and cooler air will follow the passage of the cold front. Stay alert to any potential weather advisories as the system moves eastward.
The UV index in Salt Lake City remains moderate at 5 on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Even with some cloud cover and possible precipitation, it’s important to remember that the sun can still cause damage. Expect a burn time of approximately 27 minutes if the clouds part.
