A complex weather pattern is unfolding across the country today. Starting in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is experiencing light showers, providing some relief to local vegetation. As we move eastward, Denver enjoys a calm, dry spell, setting the stage for sunshine throughout the day. In the central U.S., a robust line of storms stretches from the southern Midwest into the Deep South. Severe weather, including heavy rain and thunderstorms, is impacting areas from Oklahoma City through Dallas. The weightiest precipitation is centered in eastern Oklahoma, where flooding is a concern. Moving farther east, a formidable stretch of rain extends from the Tennessee Valley through the Mid-Atlantic. Washington D.C. is seeing steady rainfall that may affect evening commutes. Over the Southeast, Atlanta braces for substantial cloud cover as rain marches eastward. Expect this system to drizzle showers over the Carolinas into the evening, bringing a wet start to the weekend. Meanwhile, New York City currently enjoys clear conditions, providing a break from the widespread wet weather affecting much of the eastern seaboard. Keep an umbrella handy, though, as these patterns are subject to change!
Let’s take a look at the afternoon high temperatures across the nation today. In the Northeast, temperatures are mild, with New York reaching 55 degrees and Washington, D.C. at a comfortable 64 degrees. Moving to the Midwest, Chicago is on the cooler side with a high of just 48 degrees, while Kansas City warms up to 55. Down in the South, Atlanta is feeling quite pleasant with a high of 73 degrees, and as we slide into Florida, Tampa stands out with a sweltering 90 degrees, making it the hottest spot in the region. Out West, it’s sunny in Los Angeles with a high of 72 degrees, while Phoenix heats up even more, hitting 82 degrees. Heading north, Seattle’s cool and crisp with a high of just 54 degrees, contrasting nicely with warmer temperatures further south.
The low temperatures for tomorrow morning show a significant chill across the U.S. Up north, Minneapolis will see a frigid low of 23 degrees, while Chicago dips to 25 degrees. Heading west, Denver will wake up to 45 degrees, and further south, Oklahoma City has a low of 41 degrees. In the Midwest, Kansas City will cool down to 30 degrees, and in the Northern Plains, Billings is expected to hit 46. Moving to the Southeast, Atlanta experiences a low of 43 degrees, with Washington D.C. and New York both starting at 37 degrees. Dallas begins at 43 degrees, while Houston is slightly warmer at 48 degrees. In contrast, the southern tip of Florida sees a milder morning with Tampa starting at 64 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow show a warm trend across the Southwest. In Las Vegas, expect a high of 80 degrees, later in the week – triple digits are possible for Sin City! Today in Phoenix could soar to 88 degrees, a notable above-average reading for this time of year. Meanwhile, in Southern California, Los Angeles will be a mild 66 degrees, and San Diego is looking at a high of 65.
A powerful springtime weather system is set to impact the northeastern U.S. over the next 48 hours. New York City and Boston are facing a significant wet weather pattern starting late today with heavy rain and gusty winds, which could disrupt evening commutes. Snow is expected in higher elevations, including parts of New York state and New England, resulting in tricky travel conditions. In the Midwest, cities like Chicago and Minneapolis remain under the influence of cooler air, maintaining a mostly dry and cloudy outlook through Wednesday. Farther west, notable precipitation activity is anticipated as a series of Pacific disturbances push inland. Seattle sees a mix of rain and mountain snow; expect possible travel disruptions across passes. Down south, Dallas and Houston will experience a shift to warmer temperatures, with mostly sunny skies dominating the scene. However, keep an eye on the coastal areas south of Houston for isolated heavy showers, mainly this evening. Have a great weekend.
