Today’s weather offers a panorama of patterns across the United States. While the North battles snow and chill, the Southern states enjoy clear skies and warmth. Dive into our detailed forecast to understand how these varied conditions affect local areas. Plus, get insights on what to expect tomorrow as we look at prospective temperature drops and rising conditions in certain regions.
On the National Radar today, a weather system is making its approach from the Pacific Northwest, bringing rain and strong winds across much of Washington state, with Seattle seeing considerable showers. Expect rainy conditions to stretch into parts of Oregon. Moving farther east, in the Northern Rockies, we see snowy conditions impacting areas around Billings, as the system transitions from rain to snow in the higher elevations. This snowfall is extending into the northern plains, brushing parts of Montana. Down the southern plains, skies are largely clear as far as Oklahoma City and Dallas, where conditions are calm, offering a pleasant respite from stormy weather. Chicago experiences chilly temperatures but remains dry. The attention then turns to the upper Midwest and Northeast, where the radar shows a significant band of snow sweeping across eastern parts of Minnesota to Michigan and into northern New York. Minneapolis is under light snow coverage, while heavier snowfall impacts regions further east. Vermont and New Hampshire should prepare for steady snowfall throughout the day. In the Southeast, skies are clearing out with Atlanta experiencing a pleasant start to the day as rain showers move eastward. However, the Mid-Atlantic is under a spell of rain, particularly from Washington D.C. up through Philadelphia and into New York City. New York will experience periods of heavy rain, which could lead to some travel disruptions. Lastly, along the Gulf Coast from Tampa to Houston, expect fair weather, as the region largely avoids the current storm systems affecting other parts of the country.
In the West, Phoenix is feeling the heat with a high of 88 degrees, while Los Angeles sits at a milder 66. Up north in Seattle, temperatures are much cooler, reaching only 52 degrees. Moving to the Midwest, we’re seeing chilly conditions in Minneapolis with a high of just 39 degrees, contrasting sharply with Billings, where a warmer 72 degrees is reported. Kansas City sits at 59 degrees, making it a bit more comfortable. In the South, Atlanta enjoys a pleasant high of 70 degrees, while Dallas remains cooler at 66. Over in Oklahoma City, expect a high of 68 degrees. The standout warmth continues in Florida, as Tampa heats up to 86 degrees, making it one of the hottest spots in the country today. Overall, we have a mix of temperatures as winter’s chill lingers in the north, while the south basks in warmth.
Tomorrow morning, expect a chilly start across the U.S. Key cities will see significant drops in temperature. Out West, Seattle wakes up to 42 degrees, while in Salt Lake City, the low is 46. Heading into the Rockies, Denver sees a cool 44 degrees. In the Midwest, Minneapolis and Chicago both start at the freezing mark of 32 degrees, with Billings dipping slightly lower at 38 degrees. Moving to the East, New York and Washington, D.C. will also experience morning lows of 32 degrees, while further south, Atlanta cools down to 40 degrees. Oklahoma City starts at 52 degrees, and Dallas checks in at the same. Temperatures remain milder in the South, with Houston at 54 and Miami holding steady at 63 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow across the Western region are showing some significant variation. In Southern California, Los Angeles will enjoy a mild 66 degrees, while San Diego hits a pleasant 63. As you move toward the desert areas, Phoenix is expected to soar to a high of 93 degrees, well above average for this time of year, thanks to a high-pressure system lingering over the region. Farther north in the Rockies, Denver is looking at a high of 73 degrees, which is right in line with seasonal expectations. Salt Lake City will reach 68 degrees. Heading to the Great Basin, the area is also anticipated to see a warm day with highs around 75 degrees, contributing to a general warming trend in the area. Overall, a mix of pleasant to warm temperatures will dominate much of the Western U.S. tomorrow, with those in the desert regions feeling the heat more intensely.
Expect a mix of conditions across the nation over the next two days. In the Midwest, a cold front arriving later today will bring scattered showers and cooler temperatures across cities like Chicago and Minneapolis, with potential strong winds overnight. Farther south, Kansas City and St. Louis can anticipate light rain, transitioning to clear skies by mid-week. Over the Southeast, a moisture-rich system will lead to downpours from Houston to Atlanta. Dallas may see isolated thunderstorms with elevated winds, particularly impactful by Tuesday evening. Heading to the West, Seattle and Portland will experience a string of showers with cooler air settling in. San Francisco enjoys clearer skies with mild temperatures. Los Angeles and Denver remain dry, with temperatures comfortably warm and sunny. In the South Florida region, keep an eye on developing rain bands around Tampa and Miami. Thunderstorms are possible, bringing short but intense bouts of rain and strong winds, especially through Monday afternoon.
