As the calendar flips to Autumn, the U.S. experiences a potpourri of weather patterns. A band of storms brings flooding to the Southern Plains, while clear skies greet the West. The South scorches, setting records in Phoenix, while the Midwest enjoys cooler temperatures. Prepare for tomorrow’s weather with our tips on handling these diverse conditions.
A robust band of storms is sweeping across the Southern Plains, with Dallas and Oklahoma City experiencing intense rainfall, leading to potential flooding concerns in the area. Meanwhile, light showers are extending farther east, affecting Atlanta on the Southeast Coast. The heaviest rain impacts the Mid-Atlantic, where Washington, D.C., faces significant precipitation complicating travel plans. In the West, cities like Seattle and Los Angeles enjoy calm conditions under clear skies, providing a pleasant weather contrast to those more storm-prone regions today.
Today, the Southwest is ablaze with Phoenix reaching a scorching 106 degrees, making it the hottest spot in the nation. Meanwhile, Dallas enjoys slightly more moderate conditions at 81 degrees, with Houston not far behind at 89. Over in the Southeast, Atlanta is steamy at 91 degrees, while Tampa balances the warmth with a high of 93. In contrast, the Midwest remains cooler, with Chicago only reaching 70 degrees, highlighting a significant temperature divide across the country.
Now for the low temperatures tomorrow morning across the U.S. Expect a brisk 56 degrees in Chicago, while Minneapolis dips slightly lower to 54. Heading south, Kansas City will see a low of 58 degrees, and Dallas remains milder at 65. On the warmer side, New York starts the day at 72 degrees, while the Southeast, including Atlanta, will wake up to 67 degrees.
Tomorrow, temperatures will be notably warm across the central and southern U.S. Dallas is expected to reach 86 degrees, while Houston is aligned for a high of 86 degrees as well, both above seasonal averages. In the Southeast, Atlanta will see a high of 80 degrees, and Tampa is set for a warm 92 degrees, indicating significant heat for this time of year. The warm air mass influencing these highs is contributing to a summer-like feel, making it a pleasant day in many areas.
A cold front is set to drive significant weather impacts across the Midwest, with heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms expected from Kansas City to Chicago, potentially leading to localized flooding and damaging winds. The Southeast from Dallas to Atlanta is under the threat of severe thunderstorms, including gusty winds and isolated hail as the front moves through. In the Northwest, Seattle faces persistent rain, while the mountainous regions from Denver to Billings brace for some light snow at higher elevations. The West Coast stays mainly dry with Los Angeles enjoying clear skies.
