The rain stretches to the Carolinas, brushing Washington D.C. with lighter rainfall by the evening. Up in the Northeast, New York appears to be drying out after an earlier spell of showers. Looking towards Minneapolis, clear skies create a serene scene. In general, stay prepared for parkas in the Rockies while rain gear is needed across the Midwest to the Southeast.

A significant weather pattern is unfolding across the United States over the next 48 hours. A strong cold front is progressing eastward through the Midwest, bringing with it the potential for severe thunderstorms across areas from Kansas City to Chicago, with risks including damaging winds and large hail. As this front swings through the Great Lakes region, expect cooling temperatures to follow the front’s passage. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, will experience periods of rain, impacting travel. Down south, in Houston, expect isolated thunderstorms today, transitioning to clearer skies tomorrow. The East Coast, particularly around New York City and Washington D.C., will see an onset of light rain showers, with potential clearing by late tomorrow.
