The national radar reveals a variety of weather conditions as we move from west to east. The West Coast is predominantly dry, with cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco enjoying clear skies. The Rocky Mountain region is calm, with Denver experiencing clear conditions. In the central United States, particularly around Kansas City, there are pockets of precipitation, though not too intense.
Severe weather conditions are evident further east. A cluster of intense storms is impacting areas around Chicago, with heavy rainfall and potential lightning strikes causing concern. As we move towards the Midwest and Great Lakes, Minneapolis is seeing a mix of rain and intermittent clear patches.
In the Southeast, places like Atlanta are experiencing scattered showers, leading to a wet commute for some. The rain is widespread across the region, particularly affecting areas heading towards the Carolinas. The Northeast, including cities like Washington D.C. and New York City, is under a blanket of light to moderate rain, which might affect travel later today.
Today across the country, we’re seeing a wide range of temperatures. In the heart of the South, Houston sizzles with a high of 85 degrees, while Dallas follows closely at 83. Over in the Southeast, Atlanta reaches 79 degrees, providing comfortable spring weather. Moving to the Midwest, Chicago remains cooler at 61 degrees, while Kansas City sees a warmer 67. Out West, Phoenix is blazing with a high of 92 degrees, standing out as one of the hottest locations today, while San Francisco is much chillier at just 58 degrees.
In the Northeast, expect a chilly morning with lows dropping to 38 degrees in Chicago and 51 in New York City. Moving towards the Midwest, Minneapolis sees a low of 30, right at the freezing mark, while Kansas City holds at 35 degrees. The Southeast experiences milder temperatures, with Atlanta waking up to 40 degrees and further south, Miami starting at a comfortable 63. In the West, Denver faces a cooler morning with a low of 47, while Los Angeles remains mild at 59 degrees.
For tomorrow, high temperatures across the Midwest are expected to trend slightly above average, with many areas welcoming a warm spring day. Chicago will reach a high of 54 degrees, while Minneapolis lags behind at just 54. Kansas City will see a more pleasant 65 degrees, and further south, Oklahoma City is forecasted to hit 68 degrees. In the Southern Plains, Dallas is looking at a high of 83 degrees, and Houston will warm up to 85 degrees, making it feel quite summery. Meanwhile, in the Southeast, Atlanta is set for a comfortable 83 degrees, and Tampa could soar to a steamy 91 degrees.
A cold front is sweeping across the northern plains, bringing cooler and drier air behind it. Minneapolis can expect a drop in temperatures as this front passes through, with some rain showers likely. Meanwhile, the eastern Seaboard, including New York and Washington D.C., will experience persistent rain over the next two days, potentially impacting travel, so keep your rain gear handy. The southeast, particularly around Atlanta, should brace for possible thunderstorms associated with an unstable air mass lingering longer. Over in the West, mountain snow is anticipated above 5,000 feet across the Rockies, making travel through passes potentially tricky. Denver should see a mix of rain and snow, transitioning to mostly snow later in the period. California’s weather remains mostly dry, though some light showers might make an appearance in the San Francisco area. By late Tuesday, the weather remains relatively calm across the southwestern quadrant, with Los Angeles and Phoenix basking in sun and mild conditions.
