On the national radar, we begin in the Pacific Northwest, where Seattle is experiencing some light rain showers, bringing wet conditions today. Moving eastward, Billings, sees some scattered rain that could impact outdoor plans. Light snow is sweeping across Minnesota. It’s the Midwest’s biggest impact area with heavy snow expected to continue throughout the day. Chicago is on the clearing edge of that snow system as it moves eastwards, likely to see improving conditions by midday. Looking south, Kansas City has clear skies, making it a pleasant day in the heartland. Over towards Oklahoma City, there’s no rain in sight, perfect for any outdoor events planned. Checking in on the South, Houston is dry, ideal for enjoying the mild temperatures outdoors. Similarly, Dallas is enjoying clear conditions. Over in Louisiana, particularly in areas east of Lake Pontchartrain, some rain showers could develop later today as clouds build. Atlanta and surrounding areas in Georgia will experience fine weather today, but expect changes as new rain systems form to the west. Meanwhile, Tampa and Northern Florida enjoy a dry spell with clearing skies expected tonight. Towards the Northeast, New York and Washington D.C. both enjoy clear skies today without any precipitation forecasted. A breezy day for the capital but overall pleasant conditions.
In the West, Los Angeles is enjoying a warm day with a high of 70 degrees, while further inland, Phoenix is heating up significantly to a sizzling 97 degrees. Meanwhile, in Ely, temperatures reach a pleasant 70 degrees, adding to the warmth in Nevada. Moving to the Midwest, Kansas City is a bit warmer with a high of 77 degrees. However, in Chicago, it’s considerably cooler at just 43 degrees. Turning to the South, Dallas is seeing a high of 84 degrees today, making it one of the hotter spots in Texas. Houston is a bit cooler with a high of 81 degrees. In the Southeast, Atlanta is sitting at 70 degrees, while in Florida, Tampa registers 81 degrees. Across the Northeast, temperatures are quite varied—New York is a cool 50 degrees, while Washington, D.C., is slightly warmer at 55 degrees.
Tomorrow morning, a cool down takes over across the U.S. In the Midwest, Chicago will start the day at a brisk 36 degrees, while Minneapolis drops to a chilly 30 degrees, just below freezing. Kansas City will see a low of 45 degrees. Moving east, New York wakes up to 43 degrees, while Washington, D.C. will be at 48 degrees. The South will enjoy milder temperatures, with Dallas at 54 degrees and Atlanta starting at 50. Oklahoma City will see a cooler morning low of 46 degrees. Out West, Denver registers 43 degrees, while Salt Lake City is slightly warmer at 55 degrees. Farther south, Phoenix begins the day at 68 degrees.
Tomorrow, high temperatures across the Southwest region are expected to soar into the upper 80s and even reach 100 degrees in some areas. Phoenix is forecasted to peak at a sizzling 100 degrees, while Las Vegas will follow closely with 84 degrees. Farther south, El Paso will see a comfortable 81 degrees, and in Midland, temperatures will reach about 86 degrees. In contrast, temperatures in coastal California will be milder, with Los Angeles hitting around 70 degrees and San Francisco slightly cooler at 66 degrees. Salt Lake City will enjoy a high of 79 degrees. A warm air mass is driving these above-average temperatures, particularly in the desert regions, while areas closer to the coast are experiencing more temperate conditions.
A cold front sweeping across the Great Plains will bring showers and thunderstorms from Dallas to Chicago, with the possibility of severe weather, especially in Oklahoma City late Wednesday into Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center highlights these areas for damaging winds and large hail. Behind this front, expect cooler and drier air to settle in from Denver to Kansas City. In the Northeast, rain showers with occasional thunderstorms persist from New York to Washington D.C., leading to localized flooding concerns in urban areas on Wednesday. This system moves offshore by Thursday afternoon, allowing for cooler and clearer conditions to take hold. The West Coast remains relatively dry, with San Francisco and Los Angeles enjoying mild weather. However, residents of Seattle should prepare for light rain on Thursday as a weak system moves across the region.
