On this national radar, we see a significant storm system moving across the Central United States. From the heart of the Southern Plains through Texas into the Midwest, there’s a robust band of rain stretching across Oklahoma City and extending up to Kansas City, bringing with it the potential for travel disruptions. The line of storms unleashes heavy rain, especially through the Dallas region, making today a day for keeping those umbrellas handy and staying cautious on the roads. Moving east, the rain tapers off as it feeds into the Mississippi Valley. As we look over to the mountainous West, snow is cascading over the peaks around Denver, promising a winter wonderland at higher elevations. The Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, experiences a rain front brushing through, giving a gentle but persistent rainfall. It’s a clear and calm day along the West Coast, with San Francisco and Los Angeles enjoying dry conditions, though a watchful eye is on the sky in anticipation of future changes. In contrast, the Eastern Seaboard remains untroubled by precipitation as cities like Atlanta and New York bask in mostly clear skies today.
Today, we’re seeing some significant temperature contrasts across the country. In the Southeast, Tampa is sizzling with a high of 90 degrees, making it one of the warmest spots today. Meanwhile, Atlanta also boasts a comfortable 84 degrees, while Washington, D.C. reaches 75. Heading west, Los Angeles is cooler at 64 degrees, and San Francisco lags slightly behind at 66. Out in the Midwest, Kansas City sits at a chilly 61 degrees.
In the Northwest, expect chilly temperatures, with Seattle at a low of 39 degrees and Billings dipping to 34 degrees. Moving to the Midwest, Chicago will see a low of 41 degrees, while Minneapolis is a bit cooler at 43 degrees. Down in the Plains, Kansas City starts the day at 43, and Oklahoma City is a bit warmer with 57 degrees. Heading into the South, Atlanta will be at 64 degrees, while Houston enjoys a mild 72.
High temperatures for tomorrow are expected to be significantly above average across the Southeast. Atlanta will see a warm high of 84 degrees, while further south, Tampa is forecasted to reach a sizzling 90 degrees. In Texas, Houston will enjoy a comfortable 81 degrees, and Dallas will hit 82. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City is expected to reach 81 degrees as well. These warm temperatures are influenced by a strong high-pressure system lingering in the region, delivering dry conditions and ample sunshine.
A cold front is set to sweep through the Northern Plains, bringing cooler temperatures and a mix of rain and snow to areas like Minneapolis and Chicago by late Tuesday. Expect gusty winds as the system progresses eastward, potentially impacting travel. The Great Lakes region will see lake-effect snow showers in northern Michigan, which might lead to tricky driving conditions. The Southeast remains predominantly dry and warm, with Atlanta and Tampa enjoying temperatures in the mid-70s. Afternoon thunderstorms may develop across parts of Texas and Oklahoma, particularly around Dallas, with the chance of brief heavy rain and isolated storms. Out West, the Pacific Northwest will experience continued showers as a new system approaches, while the Southwest stays mild and dry with sunny skies stretching from Los Angeles to Phoenix. New York and Washington D.C. should prepare for lingering showers and cool temperatures as the week progresses.
