On the National Radar today, we are seeing a dynamic weather pattern moving west to east. Starting on the West Coast, Los Angeles and San Francisco are experiencing clear and dry conditions. However, showers are approaching from the Pacific Northwest, with Seattle seeing some light rain. Moving into the Rockies, areas around Denver remain dry for now, but there’s a shift in the weather further north. Billings, Montana, is witnessing a rain-snow mix, which can make travel tricky in higher elevations. Expect this mixed precipitation to continue throughout the day, with snow accumulating in the mountain areas. Heading east, the Central U.S. from Oklahoma City through Dallas into the Southern Plains is predominantly dry. Kansas City and Chicago enjoy some respite with calm weather, but further north in Minneapolis, expect cloudy skies without precipitation today. The biggest weather impact is seen in the northeastern U.S., where a broad band of heavy rain is sweeping across New York City and Washington, D.C. These rains are causing impactful conditions with potential for local flooding, particularly around densely populated urban areas. As the system progresses, expect the rain to move towards the northeast, impacting areas like New York and spreading further into New England. In the Southeast, Atlanta sees some overcast conditions. Meanwhile, precipitation is not significant until reaching the northeastern states. The snow continues to hold off in Minneapolis, creating generally overcast skies without much activity in the atmosphere today.
Good afternoon! Let’s take a look at today’s national high temperatures across the country. Starting off in the West, we see Phoenix heating up significantly with a high of 100 degrees, while San Francisco remains mild at 63. Moving to the Rockies, Denver enjoys a pleasant 84 degrees, with Salt Lake City not far behind at 82. In the Midwest, Chicago is notably cooler at just 50 degrees, while Kansas City reaches a comfortable 66. The Northeast continues the chill with New York and Washington both managing only 50 degrees today. Shifting to the Southeast, Atlanta is experiencing a warmer afternoon with a high of 64 degrees, while Tampa fares better at 81. In the South, Houston stands out with a balmy high of 88 degrees, significantly warmer than other major cities. Outliers are evident today, particularly in the Southwest where Ely, Nevada, reaches an impressive 95 degrees, showcasing a stark contrast to the cooler temperatures further north and east.
Now for the low temperatures. Expect a chilly start in the Northeast with New York at 41 degrees and Boston dropping to 39. Washington, D.C., will have a low of 45. Moving into the Midwest, Minneapolis will see a brisk morning at 52, while Chicago cools down to 48 degrees. Kansas City will wake up to 61 degrees. Down in the South, Atlanta is dipping to 39 and New Orleans sits at 46 degrees. Further west, Dallas has a low of 63, while Houston also reports 63. A touch cooler in the Southwest with Los Angeles at 55 and Phoenix at 68. In the Rockies, Denver is forecasted for 50, while Salt Lake City will feel a little nippy at 45. Heading to the central plains, Billings manages a cool 37 degrees, while the high desert town of Ely, Nevada, will be notably colder at 31 degrees, just below freezing.
High temperatures for tomorrow, April 12th, are shaping up to bring some warmth across the Southwest region. In Nevada, Ely will reach 67 degrees, while Las Vegas is set for a sizzling 100 degrees, well above the seasonal average. Arizona also sees highs in the upper 90s, with Phoenix expected to push 100 degrees. Moving to the southern portions of the region, temperatures in Southern California are quite mild; Los Angeles will reach a comfortable 66 degrees, and San Diego is set at 64 degrees. A notable warming trend persists in Texas, with Dallas and Houston both looking at highs around 84 degrees. Overall, expect pleasant conditions across much of the Southwest, albeit with some areas experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures.
The national futurecast indicates a developing storm system affecting the northern plains and moving eastward. Expect a cold front to push through the Midwest and Great Lakes region by Monday evening, bringing possible severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail from Minneapolis to Chicago. Cooler, drier air follows behind the front, offering relief from the recent mild temperatures. Across the Southeast, moisture influx from the Gulf of Mexico could lead to scattered thunderstorms from Dallas to Atlanta over the next two days, so keep an eye out for any severe weather alerts. The Southwest remains relatively quiet, with mostly sunny conditions expected, while the Pacific Northwest prepares for more showers, particularly affecting coastal and mountain areas. In the Northeast, expect scattered snow and rain showers in places like upstate New York and northern Maine, with the potential for light accumulations. Stay informed and cautious on the roads as conditions change rapidly.
