On the radar, a concentrated band of precipitation is pushing through the Upper Midwest. Minneapolis is experiencing heavy rain showers, with a line of storms trailing towards Chicago, bringing the potential for localized flooding. In the Northern Rockies, around the Denver area, snow is falling heavily, impacting mountain passes and possibly disrupting travel. The Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, remains mostly dry and clear.
Farther east, the Great Lakes area, particularly near Detroit, continues to have rain mixed with wintry precipitation, making driving conditions tricky. The Mid-Atlantic region, including Washington D.C. and New York, holds steady with overcast skies without significant precipitation currently. Moving into the Southeast, Atlanta’s radar shows mostly clear conditions, providing a welcome respite from recent rainy spells.
The Southwest, particularly around the Los Angeles area, is clear, with no signs of rain impacting the sunny skyline. On the Gulf Coast, from Houston eastward, expect calm weather, staying dry for outdoor activities. While most of the Southern Plains remain clear, scattered showers in northern Kansas City introduce light precipitation to the region.
This afternoon’s high temperatures show significant variation across the country. In the South, Houston reaches a steamy 87 degrees, while Dallas isn’t far behind at 85 degrees, making them some of the hottest spots in the region. Heading to the Southeast, Atlanta warms up to 85 degrees, showing a pleasant spring vibe. In stark contrast, the Midwest stays cooler with Minneapolis only hitting 54 degrees and Kansas City at a mild 70. Out West, Los Angeles enjoys a comfortable 61 degrees, while Phoenix is significantly warmer at 75 degrees. Notably, Denver struggles with a chilly high of just 33 degrees, making it the cool outlier today.
Tomorrow morning, the central U.S. will feel the chill with a significant drop in temperatures. Denver will start the day at a frigid 31 degrees, making it one of the coldest spots. Minneapolis isn’t far behind, waking up to 36 degrees. Moving to the Midwest, Chicago will experience a low of 45 degrees, while Kansas City sits at 49. The Southeast will be milder, with Atlanta waking up at 39 degrees and Dallas at 64. Expect warmer temps in the South, with Houston resting comfortably at 74 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow are expected to soar above average in many parts of the region. Washington, D.C. will reach a warm 87 degrees, while New York can anticipate a high of 82 degrees. Atlanta is set to match that trend, reaching 87 degrees as well. Farther south, Tampa is on track to hit a sizzling 90 degrees, making it a particularly hot day. In contrast, Kansas City will be considerably cooler, with a high of just 55 degrees. This temperature disparity is due to a warm front moving through the southeastern states, bringing elevated temperatures to much of the area.
A cold front is advancing through the central U.S., bringing substantial rainfall to Kansas City with risks of thunderstorms. Oklahoma City could encounter severe weather, including strong winds and possible hail, especially as storms intensify. Meanwhile, the frontal passage will cool down temperatures behind it, with areas like Dallas seeing a relief from recent warmth. The East Coast, particularly New York and Washington, will experience rain showers as the system moves eastward, potentially affecting Thursday morning commutes. In the Northwest, Billings is expected to see mixed precipitation, transitioning from snow to rain as warmer air filters in. The Southwest remains largely clear, with Los Angeles enjoying sunny skies amid the broader weather shifts. Keep an eye on the Southeast, where Atlanta might see rain by late Wednesday as the tail end of the front approaches.
