On today’s radar, we have an exciting weather story to tell. Starting in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is draped in a blanket of rain, adding to the iconic emerald allure of the region. As we move inland, the northern Rockies near Billings are experiencing showers with spots of mixed wintry precipitation. Denver is witnessing light scattered showers moving eastward. The Midwest sees clear skies in Kansas City and Chicago, providing a break in the clouds for now.
The Southern Plains, around Dallas and Oklahoma City, have some patchy disturbances with minor rain activity, but it’s across to the East where our attention captivates. A bold line of thunderstorms is spreading north from Houston to Atlanta, bringing the potential for heavy downpours and localized flooding, especially around Atlanta. Meanwhile, the sunshine state holds firm with Tampa keeping those rain showers away for a mostly clear afternoon.
The Northeast corridor enjoys breezy spring weather, but toward the Great Lakes, Minneapolis watches for light rain sneaking in later. Washington, D.C., remains under a mix of clouds, hinting at possible sprinkles. It’s a dynamic day from coast to coast, with Atlanta experiencing the biggest impact from this round of precipitation and storms.
Today’s national high temperatures are showing significant contrasts across the country. In the Southwest, Phoenix is sizzling with a high of 87 degrees, while Los Angeles is much cooler at 68 degrees. Moving to the South, Houston reaches a steamy 90 degrees, making it one of the hottest spots in the region, compared to Dallas, which will see a high of 88. Over in the Southeast, Atlanta enjoys a pleasant 80-degree day, while Tampa heats things up with a high of 92. In contrast, up north, Minneapolis is sitting at a cooler 59 degrees, showcasing the temperature disparity across the regions.
Tomorrow morning brings a notable chill across the U.S. Minneapolis will dip to a brisk 47 degrees, while Kansas City starts at 49 degrees. The Midwest sees a drop in temperatures as Chicago registers a low of 49 degrees, and further west, Denver will be at 42 degrees. In the Rockies, Salt Lake City will start the day at a cool 44 degrees. Notably, the Northern Plains experience even colder air, with Billings plunging to 41 degrees. In contrast, the East Coast remains milder, with Washington D.C. at 54 degrees and New York waking up to 52 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow in the Southeast are expected to be notably warm, with many areas experiencing above-average readings. Atlanta is set to reach a high of 88 degrees, while neighboring cities like Birmingham and Montgomery will see similar warmth, hitting 90 degrees. In contrast, Dallas will enjoy milder conditions with a high of 82 degrees, while Houston is pushing up to 91. New Orleans is also warming up, anticipated to hit 93 degrees by afternoon. The unseasonably high temperatures are being driven by a ridge of high pressure settling over the region, resulting in dry and sunny conditions.
A strong low-pressure system is bringing rain and thunderstorms to the Midwest, impacting cities from Minneapolis to Chicago. Heavy rain is expected with pockets of severe weather possible, especially in the Chicago area. Dallas to Oklahoma City in the Southern Plains will see dynamic conditions with likely severe thunderstorms by tonight continuing into tomorrow. The Southeast, including Atlanta and Tampa, remains mostly free of severe weather, but scattered storms could bring heavy rain. Over the West Coast, conditions remain mostly dry except for scattered showers anticipated around Seattle. The Northeast, from New York to Washington, expects cooler temperatures with light showers possibly impacting evening commutes. Be aware in regions expecting active weather, and stay updated with local advisories.
