A glance at the national radar reveals impactful weather patterns today. Starting in the Northwest, Seattle and areas eastward to Billings are witnessing light rain showers, expect damp conditions and cloudy skies. In the Rockies, a mix of rain and snow is creating travel headaches from Denver to northern Wyoming—drive safely through those mountain passes. Heading down to California, Los Angeles enjoys dry skies, but San Francisco is seeing intermittent rain, perfect for an afternoon indoors with a warm drink. Elsewhere, the Central Plains, including Kansas City and Oklahoma City, enjoy calm and clear conditions, providing a pleasant break in weather activities. The Upper Midwest around Minneapolis remains dry with partly cloudy skies, no precipitation in sight. In contrast, the East Coast is bracing for heavier precipitation, particularly around Washington, D.C., and up through New York City, where steady rain showers are impacting commutes and outdoor plans. The heaviest storm activity is whipping through the Carolinas, drenching Charlotte and threatening delays with its intense downpours. As we move farther south, Atlanta faces light rain showers, though Tampa enjoys a reprieve under mainly dry conditions.
Today across America, we’re seeing quite the range in temperatures. In the South, Dallas is heating up to a scorching 97 degrees, making it one of the hottest spots in the region. Houston isn’t far behind with a high of 93. In contrast, New Orleans stays relatively cooler at 88 degrees. Moving north, Kansas City and Minneapolis are experiencing much milder temperatures, both reaching the mid-70s. Out West, Los Angeles has a pleasant afternoon high of 67 degrees, while San Francisco lags slightly at 65.
Now for the low temperatures. The Northern Plains will feel the chill, with a morning low of 31 degrees in Minneapolis, dipping right at the freezing mark. Farther west, Billings will see a low of 45 degrees, while Denver cools down to 46. The Midwest is also brisk; Chicago starts at 58 degrees, and Kansas City is slightly warmer at 61 degrees. Heading south, Dallas remains mild with a low of 75, whereas Oklahoma City begins the day at 69. In the East, New York will experience a cool start at 61 degrees, while Washington, D.C. sits at a relatively mild 64 degrees.
High temperatures for tomorrow are shaping up to be notably above average across the region. Dallas will experience a warm 102 degrees, while Houston is set to reach a balmy 94 degrees. Oklahoma City is forecasted to hit 97 degrees, marking a significant warm spell for this time of year. In contrast, Austin will see highs around 99 degrees, adding to the summer-like heat. Meanwhile, further east, temperatures in New Orleans will peak at 88 degrees.
The Midwest is preparing for another round of unsettled weather. Minneapolis can expect thunderstorms by late afternoon on Thursday. A cold front moving across the Great Plains will bring showers to Kansas City and Oklahoma City, lasting through Wednesday night. Across the Pacific Northwest, from Seattle to Billings, rain continues, with a heavy focus on coastal areas. Expect cooler, wet conditions through Thursday. Meanwhile, the Northeast faces increasing cloud cover, with Washington and New York likely to see showers by Thursday afternoon. The risk of severe weather remains primarily in the Upper Midwest. It’s a dynamic picture, so keep an eye on weather alerts especially for the central states.
