On the national radar, a robust band of severe thunderstorms stretches from Oklahoma City northeastward through Kansas City. These storms are packing quite a punch with potential for heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding concerns. Areas from Denver stretching westward to San Francisco are enjoying clear skies, perfect for outdoor activities. The Pacific Northwest, from Seattle to Billings, also looks calm with no significant weather disturbances. However, the Upper Midwest around Minneapolis is experiencing some scattered rain showers. In the Northeast, low pressure over New England slowly tracks into the Canadian Maritimes this weekend before a broad area of high pressure builds over the region. Down south, Dallas and Houston are both in the clear. Atlanta remains calm as well, but should keep an eye on upcoming weather from the west.
Today, high temperatures soar across much of the southern U.S. Dallas is feeling the heat at 95 degrees, while farther east, Atlanta reaches a warm 81 degrees. In Florida, Tampa and Miami are sizzling at 95 and 92 degrees, respectively. Oklahoma City expects a high of 84 degrees, while Denver cools down to a more temperate 67 degrees. Up in the Northeast, New York has a pleasant high of 65 degrees, with Washington D.C. slightly warmer at 70. Over in the West, temperatures remain mild with Seattle at 75 degrees and San Francisco cool at 61 degrees.
Now for the low temperatures. Across the Midwest, expect a mild 40 degrees in Chicago and 46 in Minneapolis. Kansas City will see lows drop to 57, while down south in Dallas, the temperature will be a milder 69 degrees. Atlanta’s temperatures dip to 66, but moving further east, temperatures fall to just 56 in Washington D.C. Denver, gets a morning low of 49 degrees.
Tomorrow, the Eastern U.S. will see warm temperatures as high pressure settles in, pushing many areas above average for this time of year. New York can expect a high of 70 degrees, while Washington, D.C. reaches 73 degrees. Atlanta will enjoy a high of 81 degrees, and farther south in Tampa, temperatures could soar to 91. The Midwest remains cool with Chicago peaking at 66 degrees. Kansas City will only manage a high of 65 degrees.
Millions of Americans will dodge showers this Memorial Day weekend. Expect wet weather over the next 48 hours for the central U.S. as a storm system brings rain from Texas through to the Great Lakes. Dallas and Oklahoma City will see rain showers today, with some potentially turning into isolated thunderstorms. By tomorrow, the rain bands extend northward into areas like Kansas City and Minneapolis, enhancing the risk for localized flooding. The Southeast, including Atlanta and Tampa, should prepare for scattered thunderstorms, with the possibility of some storms reaching severe levels with high winds. On the West Coast, a system spreading inland will bring rain showers to Seattle and parts of Northern California, potentially impacting travel and outdoor plans. Denver and Los Angeles enjoy predominantly dry conditions. As always, stay updated with local forecasts for any changes in your area’s weather.
