As we approach Memorial Day weekend, the weather plays a critical role in our plans. This year, a variety of conditions span the U.S. In the Southwest, heat peaks while the Northeast faces rain challenges that could lead to flooding. Clear skies bless the Midwest, but sharp temperature drops hint at a cold front moving through, potentially resulting in severe weather. A slow-moving system means rain could require a backup plan for outdoor activities in the central and southern U.S. this holiday weekend On the radar, the western U.S. shows clear skies with sunny conditions across California, Nevada, and the Southwest. However, Seattle and parts of the Pacific Northwest are dealing with light rain shower. The Rockies in Colorado are under clear skies. Moving eastward, a line of severe weather is in eastern Texas stretching toward Houston. The central U.S. from Kansas City to Minneapolis enjoys calm conditions. The spotlight is on the East Coast today, where a significant weather system brings heavy rain to the Northeast. From New York City through Boston, showers are creating challenging conditions for commuters and could lead to local flooding. The Mid-Atlantic, including Washington D.C., also experiences steady rainfall, while clouds dominate skies down towards Atlanta.
Over Memorial Day Weekend a sluggish storm could dampen plans as a national temperature split sets up. In the Southwest, Phoenix is feeling the heat with a soaring high of 105 degrees. Oklahoma City will reach a comfortable 78 degrees, while nearby Dallas warms up to 90 degrees. Over in the Southeast, Atlanta experiences a pleasant 84 degrees, making it an inviting day to be outdoors. In the Northeast New York is struggling with cooler conditions, reaching only 54 degrees, while Washington D.C. gets a mild 67 degrees for the afternoon.
Low temperatures tomorrow for New York and Washington will both be around 51 degrees. Minneapolis dips to 44 degrees. Chicago will also start the day at a brisk 44 degrees. Kansas City is slightly warmer at 57 degrees. In the Midwest, Billings is forecasting a low of 46 degrees, while Denver will be cool at 54 degrees. Salt Lake City is expected to drop to 56 degrees, while farther south, Los Angeles stays mild at 59 degrees. The Southeast remains on the mild side with Atlanta at 58 degrees.
Tomorrow Houston will see a high of 92 degrees, while Dallas is expected to reach 92 as well, which is notably above average for this time of year. Farther south, Corpus Christi is on track for a high of 82 degrees. Oklahoma City will have a more moderate temperature, topping out at 69 degrees. Tthe Southeast is experiencing a warm-up with Atlanta hitting about 80 degrees and Tampa soaring to 95 degrees.
A cold front approaches the Midwest, bringing a line of strong storms with heavy rainfall and gusty winds from Kansas City to Chicago. In the Southeast, areas including Dallas and Atlanta should be on alert as this frontal system moves in, raising the potential for severe thunderstorms and localized flooding.
