A dynamic weather pattern is unfolding across the United States today, with a variety of conditions from coast to coast. As we move from west to east, the Pacific Northwest around Seattle reports quite the wet spell, with steady rain expected to continue. Southward along the California coast, conditions clear up significantly with Los Angeles and San Francisco enjoying brighter skies and warmer temperatures. The northern Rockies near Billings, Montana, might see some snowflakes mixing into the rain in higher elevations.
Transitioning to the central part of the country, Denver remains calm under mostly clear skies. Meanwhile, a line of storms is drawing attention in the Southern Plains, particularly activating around the Houston area with intense rain showers. These showers are part of a larger storm system running along the Gulf Coast and making its way east. In the Midwest, a weak cold front brings scattered rain near Minneapolis and drizzles down into Chicago, which could lead to wet conditions for the evening commute.
Finally, the Mid-Atlantic and up through New York City remain dry today with just a few clouds overhead, while the Southeast, including areas like Atlanta and Tampa, indulge in pleasant weather with clear skies and no immediate threat of precipitation. The Gulf region near Houston remains the focal point for heavy precipitation, demanding attention for potential flooding as the storms progress.
Today, we’re seeing mild temperatures across much of the nation. In the Southwest, Phoenix is blazing hot with a high of 92 degrees, while Los Angeles stays cooler at 62. Moving to the Central Plains, Oklahoma City warms up to 83 degrees, making it one of the warmer spots in that region, contrasted with Kansas City, which rests at 82.
Heading east, Atlanta reaches a pleasant 76 degrees, while further north in Chicago, the high is much cooler at 56 degrees. In the Southeast, Tampa is enjoying a balmy 88 degrees, a stark contrast to New York, where the high struggles to reach 54 degrees. Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle is feeling the chill at just 57 degrees.
Now for the low temperatures. The Midwest braces for a chilly morning with Minneapolis dropping to 34 degrees and Billings hitting 33 degrees, both below freezing. Kansas City will wake up to a low of 61 degrees, while Chicago sees a cooler 60 degrees.
Moving to the South, Dallas will start the day at 63 degrees, and Houston at 67 degrees. In the Southeast, Atlanta will experience a morning low of 60, with Nashville cooler at 35 degrees.
Out west, Denver will see a low of 46 degrees, while Salt Lake City hits 42. In the Pacific region, San Francisco is expecting a low of 47 degrees and Los Angeles around 53.
For tomorrow’s high temperatures across the Southwest, we can expect a warm day ahead. Las Vegas is set to reach a high of 84 degrees, significantly above average for this time of year. In the desert city of Phoenix, temperatures will soar to 94 degrees, also well above seasonal norms.
Farther to the west, Los Angeles will enjoy a milder, but pleasant high of 63 degrees, while San Diego will be a bit cooler at 59 degrees. Moving northward, Salt Lake City is forecasted to hit 77 degrees, showcasing a nice warm trend for the region.
In contrast, the Pacific Northwest will feel the effects of a cooling trend, with highs only reaching 52 degrees in Seattle and 58 degrees in Portland.
A cold front is sweeping across the Midwest, bringing snow to Minneapolis and icy conditions to Chicago. Expect rain showers in Kansas City with the potential for mixed precipitation. Strong storms are moving into Dallas, posing a risk of severe weather through Wednesday, so stay weather-aware.
Rain showers will reach Washington, D.C., and New York by Friday, impacting evening commutes. Meanwhile, Seattle remains damp with scattered rain, and snow graces the higher elevations of Billings and Denver, affecting travel. Prepare for strong winds accompanying these weather changes in the Northwest.
Houston experiences rain, potentially heavy at times, while Tampa enjoys dry but cooler temperatures. Keep an eye on weather alerts as conditions evolve over the next 48 hours.
